Direct answer
ISO/IEC 42001:2023 is a management-system standard for organizations that develop, provide, or use AI systems. It specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an artificial intelligence management system.
For executives, its value is structural. It connects organizational context, leadership, planning, support, operations, performance evaluation, and improvement through a Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle. Implementing the management system does not by itself prove that every AI system is safe, lawful, effective, or suitable. Certification claims require an accredited certification process and must never be inferred from readiness work.

Use the source documents and qualified legal, audit, certification, or technical advice for formal obligations. This concept is an executive orientation, not a substitute for the underlying standard or law.
