Missio definition
Human oversight is not the mere presence of a person near an AI system. It requires a named role with enough information, time, competence, and authority to challenge outputs, handle exceptions, intervene, or stop the process.
The design should match the decision's materiality and speed. Oversight may occur before an action, during execution, after output generation, or through monitored exception handling. The organization should be able to evidence who exercised oversight and what happened when the system behaved outside approved bounds.
Scope note
This definition supports executive and operating decisions. Applicable law,
contracts, sector rules, and system context may require a narrower definition.
